1850, 1860. Widow, Eliza(1814-1899), in 1880 Census. Believe Thomas
was single when he came to county, so prob. married in Henderson Co.
Children: Roland H.(1835-1904), A. Elizabeth(1837-1922), William
J.(1840-1909), Thomas Milton(1844-1869) Mary E. J.(c.1850-aft.
1880)Lived in 7th Dist. of County. Roland H. was attorney in
Lexington pb. 1863-1888. He married Emily Esther?? All but Mary &
Roland buried in Caffey Cemetery (white sec.) Roland buried in
Lexington Cem. Believe Thomas THORN to be son of Hezekiah THORN of

Want to know what happened to Henry L. BELL, b. Feb. 1897 in Luray in
Henderson Co, son of Thos. L. and Sarah E. Mortimer BELL. He appears
in the 1900 US Census with parents, sisters Myrtle R. and Ona S. BELL
(HEATH). None of the offsprings of his brother, Claude BELL, b.1900,
remember him. His mother married Dick P. ALLEN after Tom BELL died

Thomas L. BELL died in Henderson CO. in 1901 leaving 4 children. Two
males were Claude and Henry L. BELL. His widow, Sarah E. "Sallie"
MORTIMER BELL in 1902 married Dick P. ALLEN of Luray. Claude BELL
kept his birthname and has descendants today in the area, but the
smaller children were "adopted" and became ALLENs, I am told. I am
trying to confirm that Henry L. BELL b.1897 became Linnie H. ALLEN,
my biological father, or did Henry L. die without progeny. Can

I am searching for any information on Nannie Ida WILSON who may have
married Isaac Fletcher MCCOLLUM in 1895 in Henderson Co. There is no
marriage shown for him in the marriages listed, but an Ida WILSON is
shown marrying A. Nunery. This is recent information on the possible
MCCOLLUM/WILSON marriage for me and I would like to follow up.
According to information I was sent, there were three sons born to
them. One of these I know to be incorrect and the son of I.F. MCCOLLUM

Seeking information on Elisha W. PRESLY, listed on the 1850 Henderson
County Tennessee census, his age 19, with his parents, Barney H. and
Malinda PRESLEY. Siblings were: Turner, 17; Alexander, 15; Mary J.,
14; Sarah E., 13; Harris, 12; Maddison, 11; Jenkins, 6; Rosil, 4;
Hosey, 1. The family moved to Leake County Mississippi shortly after
this census. Last child, Malinda Asaneth,was born in MS. Parents and
children were born in S.C., except Rosil and Hosey were born in
Tennessee. Have reason to believe Elisha either remained or returned
to Tennessee. Barney Harrison PRESLEY took up a land grant of 26 1/4
acres on May 10, 1847 in Henderson Co. TN. Before this time, they had
lived in Chester County, S.C. Any information on Elisha W. PRESLEY

I am looking for any info on an Absolem MCGLAUGHLIN 1790 - 1882. It
is noted in an estate settlement, sent to me, that he received a gov.
pension of $24.00, last collected by his son. Info from
Administrators Record Vol. A 1861 - 99 p. 206. What was the pension

My great, great, great grandparents were Thomas and Hannah JOHNSON.
I was told they were married in Henderson county in 1803.
Their daughter Catherine JOHNSON married Mordecai HALLIBURTON
February 14, 1822 place unknown. In 1845 the JOHNSON and HALLIBURTON
family were in Arkansas.

Searching for info for H.M. ROSS, b. 6 Mar, 1827 in NC, married to
Elizabeth GRIDER. They resided in Henderson Co.,TN (1860)& moved to
Upshur County, TX. The father of H.M. ROSS is thought to be Hugh
ROSS (b. 1799 NC) and his mother was Nancy (Margaret) NASH. If true,

I am looking for information on any MCDONEL that may have lived in
Henderson county around 1850. The first name I am looking for is
Hiram. He and his wife died within days of each other and are
rumored to have been buried in a mass grave near Shilo, TN. Does
anyone know of any sickness that may have killed a lot of people in
this area or have any infomation on mass graves in this area or any
lists that may have been kept of those that died from these

William WILSON b. Apr. 1791 d. Nov 1845 married Amy HALLIBURTON b.
1795 d. 1865 around 1809. A book I have states that William WILSON
was enumerated on the 1820 census for Henderson Co. William was a
Methodist minister. I'd like to find a copy of an 1820 census (if it
exists) and also see if there is a family connection to Samuel and

Who was Elish CAIN? Seeking information on this gentleman who
resided in Henderson Co., TN. It is reported that Pleasant
MULLINIKS/MULLINAX died in Dec. 1851 while visiting in the home of
Elish CAIN. Is there a CAIN/MULLINIKS/MULLINAX connection? It is
also reported that Elish CAIN may have had a son who married a
Cammila GOSSETT or Cammila MULLINIKS/MULLINAX who was possibly the
daughter of Pleasant MULLINIKS/MULLINAX. Any help in solving this

Looking for any info on a Willie J HAMILTON from the Henderson County
area as far as I know. He married a Vincie (Elizabeth?) SWANE as her
second husband. Also need info on her. They may have at one time lived
in the Savanna area. I have no dates on any of these but they had a
daughter by the name of Nunar Ann HAMILTON and Frances HAMILTON,
NUNAR was born on 07-22-1894. It is said that Vincie was a full
Indian from North Carolina/Cherokee Nation when she married her first
husband ( ) SWANE. They had at least one son named Leroy SWANE or
something close. There were other children William, John,

I am researching my grandfather's family. His name was George
Cleveland "Cleve" WHITTLE. Born in Henderson County, Luray area,on
July 13, 1885. Died on Mar 26,1944 in Blytheville, Ark.
We think his parents were George Robert WHITTLE(b: Nov.7,1840) and
Lucretia____,(b: Jan 21,1848)last name unknown. Both buried in Nebo
Cem. in Henderson County.
We do know Lucretia's first husband was a man named "Moore". They had
a daughter named Mattie. She lived with George & Lucretia.
I also Cleve had a brother named Giles WHITTLE b: 1878 in
Henderson,County. He died Feb 6,1957. He's buried in Elmwood Cem in
Blytheville, Ark. Mississippi County. (my grandfather there also)

I am researching my grandfather's family. His name was George
Cleveland "Cleve" WHITTLE, born in Henderson County, July 13,1885.
His brothers are Randolph (Ran) C. WHITTLE b: 1/28/1879 in
Henderson County. Died 3/14/1951. Buried in Nebo Cem. in Lexington,
Henderson county. Wife was Bettie M. b: 4/4/1887 d: 10/10/1971. Also
buried Nebo Cem.
Giles W. WHITTLE (JW)b: 1878 in Henderson County
Cleve had a step-sister Mattie MOORE b:1870
Also maybe another half sister Rosa Anna b: 4/4/1882 d: 12/21/1960.
Buried in Bevil Cem. in Henderson County. She was married to John
GATES. b:1874 d:1945. Buried in Bevil Cem.
Cleve's mother is thought to be Lucretia? Mattie's mother. But I
have found a Mary (Tayloe) who is Rosa's mom. Could this be Cleve's

Am researching the BOWIE family found in 1850 Henderson Co. census of
Tenn. Members are David, John, Sarah, James, Nancy, Catherine, and
Margaret. Microfilm page 388, family #74. Am trying to locate the
James BOWIE listed with the family, and where he went to. I believe
him to be my great-grandfather. Other spellings are BUIE, and BUI.

I am searching for info on an N.J. MATHIS or MATTHEWS married to
Wesley BRINKLEY (W.E. BRINKLEY?). I have a date of Feb. 22, 1881 in
Carroll Co., TN. I have been unable to positively match this W.E.
BRINKLEY to a Wesley BRINKLEY born in 1858 (unsure if it was in NC or
TN). I have him listed in an 1860 Census Index from Henderson Co.,

Andrew GILBREATH was found on 1840 Henderson Co Census. His daughter
Jane (b 1819) married William D. (David or Daniel) HODGES (b. 16 Apr
1916, TN) on 26 Jan 1837, prob. Henderson Co. Jane and William were
in Tippah Co, MS for the years following until 1850 when they were in
Rusk Co, TX before settling permanently in Wood Co, TX. William D.
HODGES is my brick wall! Believe his parents were probably in
Henderson Co in 1840, since that is where Jane's father was living.
They had 10 children, but named their only son Joel after her
brother. The girls' names may be a clue to his parentage. Son Joel
named a son Harmon, which may have been after the HARMON surname. If
anyone has knowledge of HODGES in Henderson Co, and a clue as to
William's parents, please get in touch!

Samuel FRANKLIN married Olivia RUDDER in Knox Co., TN in 1836. They
lived in Blount, Anderson and finally Henderson Cos. TN. Ollie's
parents Robert and Eunice (BLAIR) RUDDER moved along with the young
FRANKLIN family. Tragedy struck in about 1857-9 when Samuel FRANKLIN
was killed. Does anyone out there have details? Was it murder or an
accident? Samuel was b. in 1815 prob. VA. Ollie (Olivia) b. May
1818.
They had about 10 children including Mary, Martha Victoria, Catherine
Malinda, Thomas, James, William, Isabelle, Robert. Are court records
available in Henderson Co. for the period 1857-1859?

My grandmother was Almeda (HENDERSON) HOWARD, 1877-1966, daughter of
John Calvin HENDERSON and Martha Jane LEWIS of Weakley & Henry Co TN.
Her surname HENDERSON is in the lineage of Goodwin and Elizabeth
Caroline (KILLEBREW.) Goodwin HENDERSON's parents were Ezekiel
HENDERSON and Leah GOODWIN. The linage ultimately goes back to Samuel
HENDERSON who married Elizabeth CALLAWAY of Boonsville, KY. Samuel
HENDERSON's father is believed to be one (Col)(Judge) Richard
HENDERSON of VA who was an associate of Daniel Boone in the
Trannsylvia Land and Trading Company of Boonsvile, KY in the 1776
era. I woud be pleased to have a response from anyone who might have
some knowledge of this lineage.

Desperately seeking information on my great-grandparents, a couple
named COOPER, who moved from South Carolina to the Mifflin area of
what is now Chester Co. circa 1870. (Mifflin was in Henderson Co. in 1870). His given name may have been Tom, Thomas, OR John Thomas COOPER. Her
maiden name may have been McWATERS, her given name, Mary. They both
died in an epidemic in 1872 and were buried in unmarked graves, leaving my
grandfather William Ross COOPER and his brother Ithamer COOPER,
orphaned. Ithamer went to live with the Joseph FRY family, William
lived with Margaret E. Hall COOPER. Any information would be greatly

I am trying to identify the origins of Thomas SANFORD who lived with
his family in what is now Henderson County, TN between 1815 and 1830.
His birth year would have been between 1790 and 1800. Thomas SANFORD
was listed in the 1830 Census in Henderson County with a family of
eight. He at that time was between 30 and 40 years of age. He was
not listed in the partial census of the area done in 1820, but we
know he was there because his son Thomas was born there in 1816. Of
course it was still part of the Chickasaw Nation at that time. He
and his family were not mentioned in the 1850 Census either.
The son Thomas settled in Jefferson County, AL in 1836.

I am looking for anything on Lucy A MANESS. I believe she married LW
GOFF in August of 1889 in Decatur County. On the 1910
Soundex(Henderson County) the family is listed as LW GOFF, 55 yrs of
age, Lucy A GOFF, 45 yrs of age and the following children: Willia A.,
Emma A., Gennie A., Dorsie W., Liza J. Clenney, and grandson Nolan
Clenney. On the 1920 Soundex (Henderson County) they are listed as
Lucy A GOFF, Jeanie (probably Genie), Danie (probably Dorsie), Emma,

I am researching Arthur David WELLS and his third wife, Caldonia

census (possibly Lexington). Prudence A. NICHOLS is listed as "ML",
(mother-in-law) and may have been Caldonia's mother and my
great-great-grandmother. Birth year for Prudence is listed as 1843,
born in Tennessee. Birth year for Arthur is listed as 1847, but this
is probably an error - I think 1857 is more like it. Birth year for

I am looking for any records of a Washington Levi LEE b.1825 d.1862 (
in war) married to Martha Emiline SHELBY b.1824 d.? They were married
in 1844 Henderson Co, TN. They moved to Anderson Co, TX in 1857.
So far I can find no record of the family in Tenn. but Martha states
in pension files that they were married there. Any help would be very

I am descended from Dizard BLACKWELL and his wife Lucinda, surname
believed to be WEBB, who resided in Henderson County, TN at the time
of the 1850 census. He was a son of Strother BLACKWELL. Dizard and
Lucinda moved to Randolph Co. Ark about 1860, and died there shortly
after 1900. Am needing info to prove Lucinda's parentage. Also,
need info re Strother BLACKWELL's parents--he married Rebecca MORRIS
in Rhea Co. TN ca 1820.

Stokely Donelson HAYS and Samuel Jackson HAYS were brothers who
helped found the town of Jackson, TN. They were nephews of Andrew
JACKSON, through their aunt, Rachael DAVIS. Trying to establish a
connection between them and the HAYS brothers of Henderson Co., TN of
the same era. There is also an association between HAYS and DAVIS in
Henderson Co. There is also a common association in MD. Any help

I am looking for information on the family of John KIRK, Jr., who
moved from Rutherford Co., TN, to Henderson around 1825. His father
was John KIRK, Sr., of Rutherford and his mother was Mary Eleanor
MONTGOMERY. He was married to Mary (Polly) DAVIDSON in Rutherford in
1815. He died in Henderson in 1836. Mary was his first wife. Was
he married more than once or did Mary outlive him? What happened to

I am searching for any information on Andrew (Cyphas?) Powers. I
believe he was born in Henderson County aprox. 1866. I do not know his
father's name. He is listed in 1891 Voter registration. Andrew is my
great grandfather. He married (unknown) and moved to the Jonesboro,
Ark. area (Craighead Co.) and my grandfather was born there in 1902.
Andrew's first wife died in Ark. and he remarried. Children from the
first wife were Allen, Jessie, Mattie, Vestal and Arnold. He was a
Methodist preacher later in his life and all that I've heard was that
his parents (my GGGGrandparents) were also Methodist. Any help would

She had a child by a white man named Thomas Greer CROOK. The child's

My gg-uncle, Francis Marion MORGAN sold his Scotts Hill homestead in
1904 to a Frank KENNEDY. As of July 1969, according to family
research, the Kennedys still owned the farm. My ggg-grandparents,

In the 1860 census of Henderson County, there was a Daniel McCCOLLUM,
aged 62, born in NC. A female, SB, is listed there, aged 48, also
born in NC. They have young children in the household, ages 13, 8,
4. I am trying to determine if Daniel is the son of David McCollum
of Rockingham Co., NC, son of Daniel and Mary Cloud Thrasher McCollum
of that area. David had a son Daniel, born in 1798 and I can find no
information on whether he stayed in NC, moved elsewhere, and if this
man could be him. Can anyone help? Also, if this is a second wife
as the ages of the children might indicate? I am trying to determine
if he is the father of Absalom, Alfred and Samuel McCOLLUM of
Henderson County. Daniel was the nephew of Isaac McCollum who moved
to the county in the 1830s or perhaps earlier.

Would like information on Susannah "Ann" TAYLOR who married
Franciso Marcus "Frank" VOLNER. Frank was from Germany and one of
the first Scotts Hill merchants. He and "Ann" are buried in Peace
Chapel Cemetery. He donated the land for the church and cemetery.

The John McCall Chapter, D.A.R., Lexington, TN placed a plaque at the
site of a huge pecan tree in the Natchez State Park. This plaque
states, "Accepted tradition says this tree has grown from a pecan
given to Sukey MORRIS by one of Jackson's men as they traveled
homeward after the battle of New Orleans." Family tradition has it
that Sukey MORRIS was my great-great-grandmother, Milly MORRIS,who
married John SELLARS. I am trying to determine who her parents were.
Does the D.A.R. have any information about the family? If no one
can answer that for me, can someone tell me how to write someone in

M. GOFF the daughter of Jim Henery GOFF and Sally LONG. They had
four children Lewis Riley, Calbert A., Nora Cansaty, and Melvina

I am looking for information on my great grandfather James Herny RHODES/RHOADES. He ran away from home about age 13 and ended up in Comanche Co., OK and he changed his last name to ROACH by the late 1800's. It is not known when he was born or who his pare
nts are, but according to one of his daughters May, James did have a brother who lived in TN where the family was from and his name was Andy RHODES/RHOADES and he was married to an Indian lady. It is possible James had another brother named Robert and a s
ister called Mattie. However, no information has been found to prove that they are his siblings. James Henry died in Marlow, OK in the late 1940's and was married to Lucy Littrell of Comanche, OK. in 1908. They had 11 children. Any connection to my James

I am a descendant of Clem MULLINS (b. 1785 North Carolina)
married Sarah GRIMES in Henderson County, TN.
Her children at home when the 1860 Henderson County
census was taken were: William, Robertson, Nancy, Margaret.
Her oldest son was Richard Robert Mullins, Sr.
He was a Confederate soldier killed in 1864.
His children were: Mary Jane, Sarah A., Laura E., Richard Robert, Jr.
Richard, Jr.'s line leads to me,
but I wondered if there is info on his siblings.

I am searching for info. on Isabella A.B. RAY who married Thomas
CHRISTOPHER. Isabella was born March 10,1812 and died Sept. 28, 1872.
Thomas CHRISTOPHER born Nov. 19,1803, died April 12,1840. Isabella is
buried in the Horn Cemetery in Henderson Co. Tenn. They had 4
children: John Washington CHRISTOPHER, Louisa C., Nancy Jane C., and
David C.
She later married David Franklin HALL in 1843 and had 2 children:
Sarah C.W. HALL and Mary M. Casdsander HALL.
I have a picture of Isabella Ray. I have always been told that she
was Indian. Does anyone have info. on any of these people?

Seeking info about my g-g-g-grandfather James William MCILHANEY (aka
MCELHANEY aka MCILHINEY), parents unknown, born abt 1795, probably in
Ireland, married Mary Jane GIBSON, maybe in KY or TN, date unknown. I
believe she was the daughter of Jesse GIBSON & Elizabeth PHARMLEY, &
that she was born 10 March 1803 in KY or TN. James may have
immigrated to the US as a young man, but I don't know whether he came
in a family group or by himself. I am told he is on the 1830 census
for Henderson Co., TN with a wife & three girls. He apparently left
Henderson Co. about 1834 & bought land in Tippah Co., Miss. in 1830s
and/or early 1840s. He appears on the 1850 census of Tippah Co. with
his wife, Jane, 4 daughters, & 3 sons. Approx. 1853, he moved his
family to Texas, settling in Coryell County. James died in December
1869 when he drowned while crossing a swollen creek in Coryell
County.
Their children included: Margaret, Catherine, Rebecca Jane, Minerva
Ann, William James Gibson, Randle H., and Henry Clay.

Searching for info on parents of Cenus Hardy KENNEDY. Father was
Alford KENADY/KENNEDY who lived in Decatur Co., TN, and Henderson
Co., TN and then moved on to Hunt Co., Texas where he died in 1880.
Cenus Hardy KENNEDY was born Feb., 1870 and was orphaned by the time
he was 10. He was raised by a preacher named HALL in or around
Madison Co., TN. It is suspected that there is some relation to the

I am looking for anyone that has info. on the BARNES family. My
gggrandfather was William Calvin BARNES. Married to Lavisa Ann STOKES
in Henderson Co. on Feb. 17, 1857. He enlisted in the 27th TN Inf. July
1861. Co. H 27th TN. He was missing and the family didn't know what
happened until about 4 years ago. We were able to trace him to Mt.
Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, TN. We don't know his parents' names. His
wife gave information to the military he was born in White Co.

I would love to correspond with anyone who has information on Sirous
and Souy LUCAS who are listed in the 1870 Henderson County, TN
census. Sirous was 50 years old at that time and Souy was 35. Sirous
was born in SC and Souy in TN. I believe that Sirous came to TN with
Kenzie (Kensey) LUCAS, or Levisa LUCAS who lived next door. Levisa

Joseph SPAULDING married Susan DABBS about 1839. I am looking for
any information on this family. They were my great great
grandparents. I found them in both the 1850 and 1860 census. I do
know they moved to Texas and Joseph is buried in Hill County, Texas.

I am looking for info on the GORDON family in Henderson Co, TN.
William Wesley GORDON is the son of Alexander GORDON & Sarah LEE.
William was born in 1801 in Robertson Co, TN. He married about 1834
to Emily MORGAN, dau of Theophilus MORGAN & Ruth OWENS. Their
children are: George L who married Isabella Gooch, Elizabeth who
married Rufus GOOCH, Virginia Pocahontas, Sarah E who married Willis
MOORE, Annabella who married James H MOSS, Mary Elizabeth who married
Robert M RUTHERFORD, Emily Taylor who married James H MOSS and Fannie
Cornelia who married Willis MOORE. James MOSS was first married to
Annabella and after her death married Emily. Willis MOORE was first
married to Sarah and after her death married Fannie. I last found
this family in the 1850 Henderson Co, TN census. I greatly
appreciate any info on any of the above listed families.

Request information on Kinsey CAMPBELL who was married to Caroline
Smith. He is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. He had a son by the

I am searching for information on the John Washington
(FREEMAN)ALDRIDGE family. John changed his last name from FREEMAN to
ALDRIDGE sometime between 1895 and 1922. John FREEMAN was married
first to a ROGERS (possibly Tavner ROGERS' daughter). Their children
were William Tavner, Alfred Tobias, Oder Lee, Viola, Fannie, and
Hershel Clyde. Then as John ALDRIDGE, he married Ada Florence POWERS
in 1922. John and Ada had one son John Wesley ALDRIDGE.

I am doing research on a man named George W. ROGERS who was born in
Tennessee circa 1817 and later moved to Texas in the 1850s/1860s. A
"George ROGERS" appears on the 1830 census of Henderson County, and a
"Geroge W. ROGERS" appears on the 1840 census of Henderson County.
As you know, these two censuses list the name of heads of households
only and not spouses or children. I am trying to learn more about
the man (or men) listed on the 1830 and 1840 census records of
Henderson County. I believe he was the father of a man named Wilson
ROGERS who was born in Mississippi and was later listed as the son of
George W. ROGERS (originally from Tennessee) in the 1860 Census of
Burleson County, Texas. Any help in this regard would be greatly
appreciated.

others have suggested she was a HANEY. Berry was not listed in the
1860 Henderson Co census so it is unclear if he ever lived there. I
would like any information on this family, including descendants.

I am searching for Michael LITTLE born in Tenn. either 1824 or 1827
(different on two census forms). He moved to Scott County, Illinois
by 1850. Can anyone help me with this person? I do not know his

I am Searching for descendents of Drury REEVES and John REEVES who

moved to Madison Co. Arkansas prior to 1840. I believe that John had

My father is Luther Pearson born 1/30/1912. He was born in Piggot
Arkansas. His father was Nathan Alexander Pearson born 6/1/1861. I
have been told in Tennessee. He married Lillian J. Olive 8/28/1886.
They were married by J. M. Garrett. Lillian Olive was born
9/10/1869. From the listing in our family bible they had 10 children.
They had an infant son born and died July 7,1901. When I was looking
in Pearson Cemetary, I saw a infant son of N.A. Pearson born July
1901 and died July 1901. I believe this is a connection to my family
coming from Henderson County. If you can help me or you know someone
that can please let me know.
Names of the other 8 children of Nathan and Lillian are William

The 1860 census of Henderson County shows a Daniel McCollum, aged 60.
He is married with three young children. I would like any
information on him, especially to know if this is a second marriage
and any older children he might have, if any. I am trying to trace
the parents of Samuel, Alfred and Absolom McCollum of Henderson
County. It was said they had other brothers and possibly a sister or
two, but I cannot find who these people might be and am wondering if
their father might be Daniel as this is a family name. It appears
their mother or possibly step-mother was living in the county or
close by in 1859 through at least 1865. Samuel's son Fletcher was my
grandfather.

I am looking for information on the parents and siblings of both John
(Jehu) Pyles STEELE (or STEEL) and Christina BARGER (or BARGAR).
John and Christina were married in Henderson County, TN, ca 1829.
They migrated to MS in 1838 and later moved to Ouachita County, AR,
in 1848. Unconfirmed information indicates that John's parents may
have been Thomas Steele and Sarah Ann Pyles. Any information would
